My Chocolate Cake Miracle

*I caught you a delicious bass*

The day was a disaster. We woke up late to start out. Kids were out of sorts and muy uncooperative. We found papers in Brityn's backpack (Star of the Week papers) that were supposed to have been completed over the weekend. Boston was fussing and whining that he didn't want what I had fixed for breakfast.....cold cereal. He wanted oatmeal, which I made after the other two were off to school, and which he still didn't eat. The clothes he chose to put on were filth THEE!! I had to practically pin him down and peel the clothes off him. In the carpool line, he rolled up his finger in the window and that set him off again.

Then I had about a million errands to run. One of which was to pick up an iron patio table I purchased at a second hand shop. In the process of putting into the back of the truck, I dropped it on my foot. I wanted to cry it hurt so bad. At no point in this morning, did I have time to shower. I got home, realized I had left a load of laundry in that is now sour and has to be rewashed. I also find out some very sad news, which beats me down a little bit further and makes me worry. School gets out and I have to spend the early afternoon running kids to 3 different activities, and listening to them argue in the back seat, trying to referee, and solve problems and complaints. We get home later than expected and of course no one wants to do homework, and I have NO idea what we are going to eat for dinner. All kids are still out of sorts and I'm literally on my last nerve and on the verge of throwing in the towel and bawling my eyes out.

In walks Kevin from work. I'm a little frazzled, non-showered, no dinner on the table, and the kids are a tad out of control. He hugs me and gives me a little something wrapped in tinfoil.

T: "What's this?"
K: "Something I brought you from work."

I open it and it's a beautiful slice of homemade chocolate cake. A big one too.

K: "Someone made it for a co-workers birthday, and I knew you would love a piece. So I rounded up a piece of tinfoil, and asked her if I could cut you a big slice to take home to you, after I explained to her how much you would love it."

I hugged him and cried. How could he possibly understand what that little piece of chocolate cake meant at that point? I wolfed it down, followed by a glass of milk. Kevin told Corbin that he was in charge for a little bit, threatened him within an inch of his life that there better be no problems, and we went uptown to get out of the house for a minute.

Corbin called 20 minutes later to "check on us". He said he had made dinner for the kids, and that they were all 3 outside playing nicely together. A true miracle considering how they had been interacting all day. Kevin and I came home to happy children getting ready for bed, and I finally got in the shower as Kevin finished cleaning up from dinner. It was a Chocolate Cake Miracle. A little offering from a very loving and "in tune" husband.

I hate rough days when absolutely nothing goes right. There is nothing and I mean NOTHING that fixes them like chocolate let alone a big piece of chocolate cake;)!!! Nice work Kev!!!

This story made me tear up! I hate those days, and just a small thing such as a slice of chocolate cake from a loving husband who is thinking of you actually is actually a HUGE thing!, huge enough to turn the whole day around.
