Christmas Eve 2012

Christmas Eve for us begins with putting all the wrapped presents under the tree.  The kids march like little ants with their arms full of gifts, out of our room, down the stairs and into the living room.  They smile and squeal with delight and excitedly converse back and forth about whose gifts they are carrying.

Then we are off to a delicious ham dinner at Shawn and Jenise's house.  She always outdoes herself with homemade rolls, and a most delicious cheese ball.  Christmas punch is also a specialty.  We then decorate sugar cookies for Santa.  LOTS of sprinkles!
(This year, I forgot my big camera!!!)

Back at our house, we change out our pregnant Mary with the one below, and move all the pieces together.

We open our Christmas Eve boxes that include: PJ's, Footwear, a Christmas Book, and Hot Cocoa.  We all change into our jams, and then each take turns reading aloud our book to everyone.  Everyone listens intently, and claps at the conclusion for the both the reader and the triumphant ending.

Books this year included:

*Elf on the Shelf (Brityn has been begging for one for YEARS!! The whole concept is very leprechaun to me.  It's a little creepy and while I certainly don't need help making messes everywhere, it adds excitement to the Christmas season.  So, welcome Sally the Elf.)

*Walking through Woods on a Snowy Evening (a poem by Robert Frost that was GORGEOUSLY illustrated and in in book form).

*The Light of Christmas (about a poor boy whose only gift was to make the trip to the town to see the Christmas torch lit.  Along the way he discovers the TRUE meaning of Christmas!)
