New Year vs. New Every Day
Does anyone else consider New Year resolutions a complete fallacy? Why in the world do we build up the beginning of January as the ideal time to change, begin, quit, plan, and achieve? It would almost make more sense to do this on our birthday, at very least, when we begin our own new year. The whole idea is really under my skin this year.
So, I think I have had an epiphany. Lucky for me it's extra special 'cause it rhymes with my name. I've had an Tiffany Epiphany: What if we throw out the, "starting January, I'm going to....", and the "I'm going to add it to my NYRL (New Years Resolution List)"?? If you are anything like me, your list starts out humble and simple in the beginning, spirals out of control somewhere in the middle, and then is generally unrealistic toward the end. I get defeated before I even start. I've had two other general problems: I either make my list around Christmas, and then WAIT until the New Year, giving me plenty of time to make additional unrealistic expectations of myself. The build up is very anti-climatic. Or, I make the list New Years Day, start the next day, and then realize I've already lost two days of my brand. new. year!! Well, it's not a New Year anymore is it? Because, I've already messed up the first two days! I'm OCD like that. It's just all too much pressure. Especially for one as undisciplined as myself.
So what if we broke it down. What if instead of starting our New Year off with a bang, and then just waiting out the last few months of the year, we celebrate New Every Day instead? Every day is a new, unwritten, unscripted beautiful opportunity. Want to eat better? Today! Want to study scriptures more? Today!! A little saying that was passed down from my Grandma to my mom, and then to me:
"Do it. Do it right. Do it right now."
How simple, and perfect. No waiting. No wasting time. No list upon list, that starts with three items and ends up with a hundred and two. Just do it!
BE the person you want to be. WORK on perfecting yourself. MOVE to action. Every. New. Day.
It's a REVOLUTION! Happy New Every Day everyone!!
On a completely unrelated note. I still can't believe I voluntarily got myself into a situation where I follow a dog come rain or shine, on her frantic search for the perfect patch of grass to relieve herself, awkwardly looking the other way as she does so. Following which, I pick up the animal's droppings and carry them back to my dwelling to dispose of them. Aliens are getting a big kick out of that. I know they are.
