What I Need

All I ever wanted
All I ever dreamed of
Everything I hoped
And all the things I prayed for
Couldn't hold a candle
To what I've been given
I've been given what I need

A mansion on the hill, or love like in the movies
Perfect little lives, where no one has a problem
Instead of all the things I thought I really wanted
I've been given what I need.

Even when I didn't understand
When I thought you had no heart
Thank you for rejecting my demands
And always giving me a better part

All I ever wanted
All I ever dreamed of
Everything I hoped
And all the things I prayed for
Couldn't hold a candle
To what I've been given
I've been given what I need.

There seems to be a theme running through my experiences in the last
week.  The song lyrics above sum it all up.  First it was a short talk by our Stake President, at the Christmas Musical program, on how the Lord might be creating something in us that we can't possibly imagine, something different than we had planned.  Something better.

Then I took my kids to see the new Disney movie "The Princess and The Frog".  The main character finds out that what she thought she wanted, wasn't what she NEEDED.  She realizes she can be happier with what she needs, rather than getting what she thought she wanted.

Lastly, I've had these song lyrics running through my head all morning.  Maybe the Lord is trying very hard to tell me something. Sometimes this stubborn child in me think it knows what is best.  It has a plan, and instead of being submissive to the Father's will, sometimes feels picked on.

I know my Father knows what's best for me.  I know he is trying very hard to create the best possible me.  I'm so thankful for a Savior who bridges those impossible gaps of weakness and imperfection.  Every fiber of my being is full of joy for a perfect plan born of sacrifice and love.  May we all remember how much we are loved, that our Father knows best, and that He knows what's best for us.

That is my prayer for all this Christmas!!  Have a beautiful one!

Thanks Tiff, I think we all needed something like that!
