Farmers Market

I love Farmer's Markets.  Love them.  From a glance I love all the produce and the variety.  But something just doesn't seem right this trip.  As I spot the plums, it occurs to me odd to be able to grow plums in Georgia.  I inspect further.  The plums are indeed from Florida.  Now, I can almost overlook that, but when I found tomatoes from Alabama?  I feel a little taken.  What's even more hilarious is the sign says, "Mountain Grown Tomatoes".  Huh.  I'm lookin', but I don't see any mountains.  Things begin to take a cynical turn.  I begin to sneer at jam's and jellies all manufactured out of the state.  I see what's going on here, and I'm not falling for it.

Brityn, my little bloodhound has been complaining since we got here that something smells, and the smell of burnt something is finally catching my attention.  Boiled Peanuts.  I have seen signs EVERYWHERE in North Georgia advertising these "gotta have" boiled peanuts.  I decide to try them.  My first instinct is to spit it out, but I decide to tough it out and chew and swallow.  It tastes NOTHING like peanuts.  I don't know if I can emphasize this enough.  It also has the consistency of black beans.  You know, sometimes people just go one too far:

"Let's eat the newly discovered food. Yum, a little bitter though."
"Let's peel the newly discovered food to see if it's better that way.  It is!"
"Oooooo!  Let's roast them.  Yummers!"
"I know, how 'bout BOILING them?"
One too far.

The kids decide on a Stewart's beverage.  What is it about drinking something out of a glass bottle as opposed to a tin can?  Now that I just typed that out loud, it makes sense.  Too bad more beverages don't still come packaged in glass bottles.  I like glass.  But, not for kids.  Boston had a hand on his for 4 seconds before he dropped it and it shattered.  Another Orange Creme for the little man, please.

4 Stewarts beverages, and $35 in produce later we leave.  Can you believe it??!!  I still got suckered.  Dang it.
There's just something about a Farmers Market.

Ha Ha Tiff, what a cute post! I love a good farmers market too but it loses all cache when you realize the produce from the grocery store is from the same place. And I have never heard of boiled peanuts but I can promise you now they will never cross these lips! You're right, that was definitely going too far!!

I'm with your kids, beverage from a bottle is way more fun to drink :)

We tried boiled peanuts this summer for the first time...YUCK!!!!!!! I almost had to spit it out. For some reason my oldest son Ty did like them...something is not right with that boy! :) Whenever I am in a farmers market, I look for California produce... I guess I am a little bias! :)
