Monday is my bathroom cleaning day. It takes most of my morning, and I dread it! Partly because of the chore, and partly because I have a little mischievous boy who doesn't love to sit and watch cartoons. Yes, I will admit I am that mom who plops them down in front of the TV to be able to get things done. Boston will have none of it. Once Little Einsteins is over, it's ALL over. Today, however, I was pleasantly surprised how well Boston was entertaining himself. He started off playing cars. Then he made a big pile of blankets and pillows at the bottom of the stairs to slide into. Next came a music jam session with his keyboard on auto play and him on the kazoo. 3 bathrooms down 1 to go.
I was on my way to the 4th and final bathroom when Boston met me in the hall. My first thought was that something didn't look quite right. "I put gel in it," he said trying to help me pinpoint the cause of my confustion. Hmmm, I don't think that's what is different, I thought. He indeed had put gel in his hair. Lots of gel. And it was spiky in some places, and slick to his head in others, but something else just didn't look right. It reminded me of the book "Blink", by Malcolm Gladwell. It's having a gut feeling, or a reaction to something without being able to explain why. I knew something wasn't right, but I couldn't see it right off. As I began to inspect further, I could see that there were several spots where his hair was completely gone.
He had given himself a haircut. In my bedroom. I went to find the mess. Locks here, locks there. It literally looked like he had just walked around my bedroom and bathroom taking a random snip every now and then. It wasn't in one localized place. I sat him up on the sink and told him we would have to buzz him bald. After I finished, he looked in the mirror and teared up. I felt bad for him. I know what it feels like to have a bad cut. My Annie/Bozo the clown haircut (pre-kindergarten) was not a happy time, and I think my mother took the pointing and laughing, accompanied with an 'oh how cute', as a compliment instead of a sign that something may have been amiss.
All in all, I think he looks fine. And, I don't think I will have to worry about him messing with the scissors again. This is his "annie" haircut, and I may have cured him for life.

oh my goodness - just in time for his birthday! That will be memorable for sure. The good thing is that Boston is such a cutie, it doesn't matter what his hair looks like - he's adorable!!! And a buzz is so "in" for the spring/summer anyway! :)
Ohhhh sakes!!! He looks so innocent all of the time, and that sweet little voice would have me won every time:) I think every parent dreads the thought that a day like this is going to happen to them. Good thing he looks so cute with his new buzz hair cut. What a big boy though, he took his punishment like a man, a little teary eyed man at that,.
My boys anxiously await "baseball" season or as other would put it "spring" to get the BUZZ!! Definitely not the most attractive cut for my boys (although Boston is stinkin adorable with his buzz) but hey, I save plenty of $$$$ through the summer and they LOVE it! It's tradition at our house... first bball tournament means shaved heads!! I think he looks cute!!
I LOVE buzz cuts. No gel, no combing, no bed head..it is soo easy! Boston looks very handsome with his new do! I want to be the first to wish Boston HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!! Miss you and love you buddy!
Ohhhh, Boston. Maybe he can get a job as a "traveling" barber :c). Good thing it was him and not Brityn. Hannah cut her hair when she was 3. Luckily, it was just on the side of her head...not the top. She had a bob for 2 years while we waited for it to grow out.
Tiff,
Knock on wood, I have not had that one yet? Yeeks. Oh boy he is a cutie though.

He still looks cute! Devon tried to get me to shave his head bald like his daddy's a few weeks ago...he thought it would be cool...we went for the buzz instead!
First off, 4 bathrooms? Really? No wonder it takes you all morning. And what an un-fun job. Second, I know bad haircuts- remember the infamous Heather with a paper bag over her head ordeal. I think it was more I was just jealous of all my beautiful cousins and their gorgeous hair. I think he looks good buzzed though!
What a cutie! He does have such an innocent look about him. You may fall in love with not having to do his hair and then it's buzz cuts from now on:)
