Strawberries

Forgot to post this with my Strawberry jam post:

As I was working my way through my 13 lbs of strawberries, I was pondering the obsession I once had with all things strawberry.

First up, Suave Strawberry Shampoo.  As a kid, I remember wanting to drink the stuff it smelled so good.  There was something so luxurious about washing your hair with strawberry nectar, I thought.  Even after my hair dried, it still smelled so delicious.  I loved to toss my hair around sending a waft of strawberry goodness past anyone that might be sitting close by.  They should be so lucky and pampered to have strawberry juice to wash their hair with.  Eventually, I would find out about laureth sulfate and friends, once I learned how to read the ingredient list.  Kind of ruined the whole fantasy for me.

Next up, my beloved strawberry candle that about burnt our house down.  I think I got it for my birthday.  It came in a square tin, and looked very similar to the one pictured.  One night I lit it, for a little "night light".  As I sat up to check on it for the umpteenth time, I notice a pool of wax forming.  Wanting my candle to remain in it's pristine condition,  I came up with the bright idea to wipe out the hot melted wax with a piece of toilet paper......while the candle was still burning.  As I ever so gently worked the toilet paper under the flame it immediately ignited.  I was so shocked all I could do was scream.  My mom came tearing out of her bedroom and knocked the burning toilet paper, which I still had a hold of, to the floor, which caught the carpet on fire.  She stamped it out with her slippered foot and for the rest of the night and following day my poor little blistered hand was out of commission.

I had this exact lunchbox when I was in elementary.  I was so proud of my little tin Strawberry Shortcake lunch box, with the matching lattice thermos.  I would eat half of my lunch at lunch time, and then save the other half for the walk home.....which was right across the street.  I often had these images of becoming stranded between the school and home, starving, freezing, and unprepared.  Well, not with my left overs in my Strawberry Shortcake lunch box, my friend.

Strawberry Shortcake was served at my wedding reception.  It's still one of my favorites, as long as it's not served with angel food cake, which I am convinced is just memory foam with a little sugar mixed in.  I LOVE strawberries and whipped cream, or strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar, on top of just about anything.

There you go.  Just some random memories, for my kids mostly.  Speaking of lunch boxes, do you remember your lunch box?

I too had that exact same Strawberry Shortcake lunch box. Heck we were probably in the same class. I was so proud this summer when Aubrey picked out a Strawberry Shortcake swim suite. Such great memories.

Your lucky! I don't think I ever got a lunch box. I just had to walk home for lunch.

I love strawberries, too. My grandma used to take us to the strawberry patch to pick strawberries. I think I ate more than actually made it into my basket. I'm going to have to get the recipe for the sour cream/brown sugar strawberries, though. That sounds yummy and I've never had that before.

That's funny that you use to worry about being stranded on the way home with nothing to eat, because I use to worry about being kidnapped on my short walk home. What a rough area of Huntington we must have lived in:)

I had a Holly Hobby lunch box, a Pigs in Space lunch box, and yes, a Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox! Loved them....I was disappointed to see how boring lunch boxes are now for our kids! By the way, Devon is praying that he and Corbin will be in the same class this year...poor teacher... :)
