Shiny

Why is it that we never get what is fair in this life?  That despite shiny efforts on our part, horrible things can still happen to us.  Or the other way around: People that don't do what they should, seem to get away with it, or never fully get what's coming to them (so we think).   Have we ever been promised that we will get what's fair?  Absolutely not.  At least not in this life anyway.  One of my favorite songs: "Stop and Stare", by One Republic says: "you'd give anything to get what's fair, instead of what you really need".  Yeah, I would.  I'm not going to lie, sometimes I think most of us would love to see certain people get what's coming to them.  Because our human minds can only see the NOW, do we really even know what we need?  Is it possible that there is a greater plan involved, than just the obvious trial?

If we were perfect individuals, we wouldn't be on this earth.  It is a LEARNING period.  How quickly we seem to forget that.  Who hasn't tried to do something new, only to make mistakes and/or falter?  It is why Christ's sacrifice and atonement are so critical to our existence.  We simply could not do it on our own. He is molding us, leading us, and perfecting us.  Does it hurt?  Yes.  Is it uncomfortable?  Yes. Are we independently suffering?  Absolutely not.  He has promised He will always be with us.  Sometimes the hardest trials of our lives bring about the most priceless spiritual experiences.  When we pass through great sorrow, we also have the opportunity to know truer joy.  True joy doesn't consist of "things", or include where we are in life.  True joy comes through the knowledge we have of who we really are (children of God), how much we are loved by God, and our personal relationship with Him.

Only through a loving Father in Heaven can we understand our potential, and learn who He wants us to become.    We can learn to see others in the same light that God does, and love more fully & unconditionally, be more patient, support and lift; even those who at the moment may be less shiny, seemingly less worthy, and harder to love.

So is it fair?  Nope.  But it might be what we NEED, and what it takes for US to shine brighter, and/or help someone else find the light within themselves.

*Ran 3 miles today.  It was misting outside this morning, so I ran in the rain.  It was awesome!  Will do p90X tonight (hopefully).  I'm running a 5K on Saturday and needed to get the practice in.

loved your post - it is very true. I used to think if I was obedient and lived my life the way I was supposed to, everything would be okay and life would be good. But we all are going to be put to the test; we cannot escape this. It's our faith, as deep as we have let it grow and develop, that gets us through. And yes, we will come out better for it not necessarily in the circumstances of our lives but in our testimonies of our much-needed Savior. Your kids are so lucky to have a mom with such a great understanding of the gospel and such a testimony. :)
