Last week I happened upon the 1962 Helen Keller movie, which I believe is titled "Miracle Worker". It's a black and white version starring a 12 year old? Patty Duke. I've seen this movie before, but this time I was really moved by the whole story. One line inparticular spoken by Ann, Helen's teacher: "You can go to bed now, you've earned your sleep".
That got me thinking. If every day and every breath is a gift, isn't too our rest a gift? Do we earn our sleep? Do we work hard enough and give everything we have to our responsibilities throughout the day? I know more times than not I do the bare minimum just to get by. I don't know that I utilize my time the best I could. Am I working hard enough to earn my sleep? That has really inspired me to work harder and to use my time wisely during the day. Just a personal epiphany I thought I would pass on.
If you haven't seen this movie, I would highly recommend it. I really want my kids to see it as well. Passing it off as the family night movie might be a little tricky, but once we get to the part where Helen starts throwing and spitting food, we might have them hooked.

It's been awhile, but I love this movie! I also love this idea. I'm printing out your post and putting it somewhere to remind me. Thanks!
I know exactly how you feel and had a long talk with myself about this just this very week. I have always been a multi-tasker (work, home, family, quality time with my kids and husband) and once Nicholas came along I feel as though I am just "barely doing enough to get by". Thanks for the post I bet there are a lot more of us out there pondering the same questions and thoughts!
I don't think I've ever seen that movie but that is a great quote. It made me think me of that talk Elder Oaks gave at conference a while back called, "Good, Better, Best" I guess we can do good things with our time, better things with our time and the best things with our time. Sometimes it's hard to prioritize what those things are. And like you say, whatever we do, put everything into it. I know I need to do better. Good reminder!
That is a great movie! My girls tolerated it, but I haven't tried to have Tyson watch it yet. On a normal day I am probably not working hard enough. With Brian being gone all week...I am earning my sleep!!
