This is the latest treasure unearthed in our backyard. I don't know a greater joy for my kids than finding "lost treasure". I must admit the first time they went out back with shovels I felt bad for them. They certainly weren't going to find anything bless their little hearts. WRONG! They have found lots of things! They've found some glass seashells, a dolphin figurine, some petrified amber (by Corbin's account), and this little...um..., saint statue? I'm not sure what this is. Anyone?
My treasures? I remember when I was younger, I found a stash of old bottles in my Grandma's yard behind her firepit. They were all different colors and shapes. I was so excited! I also found a trilobite on a sixth grade field trip (the same field trip where the infamous "cooking tinfoil dinners on the engine" event took place). I still have it and the kids take if for show and tell when they get to their fossil unit. Last but not least, I found a two dollar bill inside an old book. Do you remember finding any lost treasure?

I sure do, his name is Saint Joseph. The Catholics believe if you are trying to sale you house and you bury him somewhere in your yard it will bring you luck. Was he upside down? There are a few rules that you have to follow when you place him in the soil, don't quote me on everything I should have googled him first. We had some friends that had there house on the market for quite sometime and their grandma gave them a saint to bury and they did and within a week it worked. She tried to convince us to bury one when we were trying to sale our first house but I just laughed. Hope I helped in your little mystery. Too bad it wasn't a long lost treasure of currency!! I still holding out on finding mine!
I never was one for digging up treasure. I was to busy playing the "candy" fairy with Andrea.
Candy Fairy!!! I loved the candy fairy. Stevie and I looked forward to every wednesday when we went on a "treasure hunt"(that could apply to this post) to find the candy stuck on the walls and the ceilings and other misc. places around the house, left by the candy fairy (aka Andrea and Adri).
yes, you are supposed to bury him near your front door actually is what I have heard but yeah, people really do this and feel it works! I guess it can be seen as a demonstration of prayer in a way...
Can you come bury Saint Joseph in my yard? I'd like to sell my house next week!
Keep digging you never know how many of those you might find. I have acrually heard that a lot and when we move from here I hope I remember to burry my own Saint Joseph.
Tiff - will you please send me Saint Joseph!!! I could really use him right now! JK!!! That is hilarious... maybe I need to go find one! BTW - age appropriate.... come on.. you still look so young you wear those shoes and wear them proud! They ROCK!!!
I've thought about it for a couple of days, and I realized that my life has been oddly devoid of buried treasure. What does that say about me?
However, I think you know that the candy fairy is a concept I could get behind.
We are coming over for family night Monday to dig in your yard. We only find bones in our yard. Of course when we went to add on they told us that we couldn't because it was an ancient indian burial ground. Then we found out they were wrong. Might have made for some cool finds though.
