The poor, poor, people who have a December birthday. Not everyone can have it made and have a birthday in June, when gifts come a very organized and even intervaled every 6 months. I know the parents must get frustrated and finally just end up dividing the Christmas gifts. It's hard to buy a gift for someone in December, because you know an onslaught of toys and gifts is just around the corner. Well, Brityn was invited to a birthday party this week. Instead of opting for a toy that most likely she will receive either at the party, or for Christmas, we decided to brainstorm and see what else we could come up with.
Her little friend is very creative. They have a small corner of one room devoted entirely to her colored pencils, cool scissors, colored glues, stamps, etc. She is also very into creative writing. So........
Then, I bought colored dividers and notebook paper. I divided the sections up: Stories, Poems, Illustrations (this sections has plain white paper), Journal, and Lists & Letters. I just realized I spelled "Illustrations" wrong on the little tab in the binder, which is now wrapped and on it's way to the party!!!! Dang it! Does anyone else out there feel like they are getting dumber with age instead of the other way around?
Brityn picked out the paper to wrap and make the card with. A little glittery "e" for the birthday girl, and tada! I think it turned out pretty cute. Brityn looked through it several times before I wrapped it. She told me she wanted one for Christmas. Where was this idea a few weeks ago when all she wanted was a DS? I want one for Christmas, too. These would be so fun to make for adult friends. Think themed binders: decorating, cooking, house & home, etc. There's nothing like an organizational tool to get my mouth watering!!

I bet you were just in heaven putting all that stuff together. What a cute idea. Cory's birthday is actually the 31st of December... New Years Eve...I absolutly hate it. It is so hard for me to buy presents for both....I have no time. He says he never really minded it and actually he says he loves it because the whole world celebrated his birthday!!! His two brothers are also December birthdays, 21st and 27th. His mom said it was always her pet peeve when people would wrap their gifts in Christmas paper...I don't ever think it bothered them. I too love my birthday in June, how could you not, like you said a sleu of presents every six months...a wooo whooo!!!
What a cute creative idea. I have to admit I probably would have just purchased a toy and been done with it. Kudos to you for taking the time to be creative and the little girl's mom probably loved you for it. January is not as bad as December, but its nothing like a fun summer birthday when you need new toys!!!!
What a great idea. I hope she can come to Mackenzie's party. I forgot I to tell you I want in invitation to see your projects blog.
Cute idea, Tiff! Both my niece and my nephew have December birthdays; and it is VERY hard to buy and send their gifts. I always try to make sure I wrap my niece's birthday gift in "birthday" paper so they don't get confused when they get their box. I might have to use your idea next year.
My birhtday is on Monday (the 22nd of December) so go ahead and ship one of those darling folders to my house. thank you!
Oh yeah, Jonah's Birthday was on the 13th so if you want to make one for him too...I will hold on to it until he is old enough to apprecaite it.
What a great and creative gift idea. Channing would go crazy for something like that. I may have to make one of those for her. I was invited to a Christmas party where a $10 gift was needed and I really struggled coming up with something. But I found something and added a little to it and it turned out cute. I will have to send you a picture.
